Save room for dessert!
We have been checking out ramen places in the Lower Mainland for a while now, and Hachi came up on our radar. We are trying to learn the various types, and I found a new one today! Kumamoto is described as a light broth, and it is just that: tonkatsu -ish looking, but the taste is very mild. It lets one appreciate the fantastic noodles that were swimming in it. Slightly al dente, they fought back a little the first few bites. These are probably the best noodles I've had in the Lower Mainland. They make them in house, so kudos to them for that! My husband had the shio ramen, and my spoonful of that broth was delish. It was salty (as one would expect), and the seafood flavour was noticeable without being overbearing.
The staff was so sweet and friendly and attentive as well. Welcoming without being cloying.
Perhaps my favourite though, was the milk pudding!
It was the perfect sized serving to follow a great bowl of soup. The syrup come in a tiny little jug; so much cuteness! I would go back for the ramen, but I would RUN back for the milk pudding! -

In New Westminster, I go here to get a good serving of ramen once every two months or so. I've gone to their soft opening and been coming back ever since because they have great service, good ramen, plus they remember me each time.
I have been doing tonkotsu shoyu here mostly so this time, I'm reviewing the Kumamoto ramen - thin noodles in a light chicken pork broth. If you're tired of having heavy broths, this one is for you. The black garlic oil brings out the flavour well. The chasiu is nice and soft, melts in your mouth. The fried garlic added the fun crunch to my spoonfuls. I managed to finish the entire thing, clearing my bowl to see the bottom of it.
They now have homemade pudding so I decided to try it out. Because they only have limited servings, I got the milk pudding with plain syrup. It was presented just like the menu picture, plus I got a vegan cookie sample. I probably shouldn't have poured the whole mini pitcher at once, but I managed to make it work. You just need a small amount of syrup to get a lot out of it. Smooth, light, and wholesome eggy goodness. The vegan cookie was better than I expected, a light coconut oil based bite (which they also have bags for you to buy. -

Kumamoto Ramen -
The pork is very good but I feel as if the broth was a little too bland. Otherwise overall it wasn't actually that bad.

The staff was great! They were super nice and friendly. I would definitely go back for more! -

My review is based in only time visiting. 3.5. clean place, no too busy, good for a quick lunch, $$$ for the small portion. Very tasty soups. Short menu.

The good:
Rack for your coat. Spacious layout. Two big tables with high stools which can seat 6 each. 2 quad seating tables and 2 smaller tables plus a small counter bar. Hooks under tables for bags.
Service was prompt with menu and water. Then it went downhill once the place started to fill up. It took a while for the bill to be given. The credit card machine didn't work (though it worked for others), gave cash and again it took longer than expected to be given the change back.
The bad:
The food was very bland. The ramen broth was quite tasteless. I had to add salt. The authentic ramen broth is salty (usually too salty for me) and flavorful. The noodle was ok and the meat too.
The karaage which I had high hopes for was also bland. It was not crispy enough and there was also more fats than I like.
I saw a few people who came in asking for take out and unfortunately they do not do that.
